Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement

Applies to Sherwoods Motor Group Ltd

Purpose

The Modern Slavery Act 2015 (MSA 2015) focuses specifically on the issue of modern slavery to ensure offenders are suitably reprimanded with severe sentences.  Modern slavery encompasses the offences of “slavery” where ownership is exercised over a person, which involves the obligation to supply a service exacted from any person under the menace of a penalty and for which the person has not offered themselves voluntarily and human trafficking concerns arranging and facilitating the travel of another with a view to exploiting them.

The MSA 2015 requires large businesses with sales of over 36 million to be transparent about their efforts to eradicate Slavery and Human Trafficking. This Statement explains the steps that Sherwoods have taken to ensure that slavery and human trafficking is not taking place in any of our branches of business or supply chains.

The statement is made in conjunction with section 54, part 6 of the MSA and applies to Sherwoods Motor Group.

Nature of Business

Sherwoods are a motor dealer, with multiple franchises selling both New and used vehicles and having repair centre, service centres and Bodyshop.  We provide fleet vehicles to many contracts which have the need for conversion. All operations are based in the UK and the group currently employees 150 employees.

Policies and Training

We ensure our management team is not only aware of the requirements to be alert to modern slavery but can readily address any concerns from employees or suppliers.  If any member of staff is in breach of the policy, we would pursue a disciplinary route which could end is termination of employment.

Our values include respect and integrity which are embedded in the culture of the group.

Suppliers

Our suppliers are the vehicle manufacturers themselves.  The chain can be very complex and have many oversees elements.  Sherwoods Motor Group would find it challenging to manage any issues prior to the vehicle / parts arriving with us.  Therefore, we see it as the manufactures responsible to ensure they have the correct policy in place.  We also have a small number of local contracts and deal with local businesses.

We allow individuals who work for us the right to freely choose employment and the right to associate freely with other individuals. as a result, we offer a workplace environment which is free from harassment and unlawful discrimination. we endeavour working policies are in accordance with the Equality act of 2010 and all employment legislations.  We do not allow any forced or involuntary labour. We have a xero tolerance approach to this and would not tolerate any of our suppliers engaging in the same.

We always issue contracts that incorporate standard terms and conditions (T&Cs) From 2017 we are asking all suppliers to ensure they have read our policies on anti-slavery and trafficking and whether they have implemented their own contractual agreements against modern slavery and if they have conducted their own assessment.

We seek to identify and do business with companies that have values consistent with ours.

Approval

The board of directors of the company approved this statement at its board meeting on the 1st July 2019.

Sherwoods Motor Group Limited is an Appointed Representative of Automotive Compliance Ltd, who is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA No 497010). Automotive Compliance Ltd’s permissions as a Principal Firm allows Sherwoods Motor Group Limited to act as a credit broker, not as a lender, for the introduction to a limited number of lenders and to act as an agent on behalf of the insurer for insurance distribution activities only.

We can introduce you to a selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. An introduction to a lender does not amount to independent financial advice and we act as their agent for this introduction. Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next best offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure the best deal you are eligible for from our panel of lenders. Lenders may pay a fixed commission to us for introducing you to them, calculated by reference to the vehicle model or amount you borrow. Different lenders may pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement, all of which are set by the lender concerned. If you ask us what the amount of commission is, we will tell you in good time before the Finance agreement is executed. All finance applications are subject to status, terms and conditions apply, UK residents only, 18’s or over. Guarantees may be required.
