Exterior Design & Build Quality

At first glance, the Leapmotor T03 has a cheerful and approachable look that we were very impressed with - especially for a car of this size.

It's definitely more an “adorable urban explorer” than a stylish sports car, but for that suits its purpose perfectly, and it's not trying to be either.

This is because this car has been designed for the city, after all — and it wears that role with confidence as it does so.

Despite its compact size, the T03 doesn’t come across as too basic or boring either, which many cars in this class really can.

Instead, it’s got just enough style to stand out in a crowd of grey hatchbacks, giving you a car that feels fun and friendly without shouting for attention as it does so.

Front

The front end is probably where the T03 makes its boldest impression, though.

It’s got some large, rounded headlights that almost give it a cartoon-like expression, with a friendly and full-of-character appearance from the off, which many will love it for that.

The grille is more of a design feature than a functional one, as this is an EV, after all, with neat sculpting and the Leapmotor badge sitting proudly in the middle here.

This is all while its LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) add a modern touch here, too, in our opinion, helping it feel more up-to-date than its budget price actually suggests - which is nice.

Side Profile

From the side, the T03 is short and upright, measuring just 3.62 metres long.

The lines here are also clean and simple, which we were impressed with, with no flashy creases or fake vents — just a smooth, honest shape that works well for tight parking and city driving on the whole.

The door handles are also body-coloured, and there’s a neat character line running from the front lights to the rear, giving it a bit of definition without being fussy as it does so.

Roofline

The roofline is quite tall and stays fairly flat as well, which really helps with headroom inside (especially in the back).

There’s a slight curve here towards the rear to soften the look, and if you go for the version with the panoramic sunroof, it adds a lovely upscale touch to it as well.

That glass roof, though, also brings more light into the cabin, making the car feel airy and open in the process.

Rear

Round the back, the T03 keeps things clean and cheerful here as well.

The rear lights mirror the front’s rounded theme and sit high on the body for better visibility as well.

There’s no rear wiper, and the tailgate is nice and wide, making it easy to load the small boot, all while a subtle roof spoiler and a Leapmotor badge round off the look back here.

Wheels

For your wheels, all T03s come with some nice-looking 15-inch alloy wheels as standard.

They’re not flashy, but they suit the car well and don’t look too small against its chunky proportions, we must note.

The wheel design also has a modern twist and helps the car avoid the steel-wheeled, “cheap and cheerful” look you sometimes get in this price range as well, which we also really liked.

Paint Options

For your paint palette, this is small but cheerful, with several fun and fresh colours to choose from.

Here, think pastel blues, bright whites, and soft silvers — nothing too wild, but enough to give the car a bit of personality.

All-in-all, they definitely play into the T03’s friendly and youthful vibe, which is nice, and make it feel a bit like a mini electric buddy rather than just a mode of transport.

Build Quality

For your build quality, here, 68% of the body is made from high-strength steel, which is pretty decent for a car in this price bracket.

And with European models being built at the Stellantis plant in Tychy, Poland (due to their Stellantis partnership), there’s a solid feel to it — even if there are a few hard plastics here and there.

It’s basic but well-built.

Interior - Surprisingly Plush for a Budget City Car

Then step inside the Leapmotor T03, and you might be genuinely surprised like we actually were.

For a car that costs less than £16k at the time of writing, the cabin feels more high-tech than the bargain bin. That is clear.

It’s clearly been designed with younger city drivers in mind — think clean lines, funky screens, and just enough tech to make you smile without overwhelming you about what you need to touch and what you do not.

Sure, some of the materials are on the harder side, but nothing feels flimsy or badly put together, which for a car of this price point is exactly what you want at the end of the day - overall, it’s a very pleasant place to be.

Front Dashboard

The dashboard layout is simple, clean, and modern as well, as it’s not fussy at all — just a clever blend of glossy panels, smooth curves, and neatly integrated tech all in one.

The use of hard plastics is noticeable, but honestly, it feels solid and well-built for the money.

Everything is also logically laid out and within easy reach as well, and there’s no clutter - which is great if you like a minimal and tidy space in your car.

Driver Displays

In front of the driver then sits an 8-inch digital display, which handles your speed, range, battery status, and driver assist info, all in an easy-to-see location.

This is then crisp and easy to read, even in bright sunlight, and it’s not as customisable as some high-end EVs, but it does what it needs to do, and it feels quite grown-up for a small city car, we thought.

Infotainment System

The 10.1-inch screen / central touchscreen is the star of the show, though here upfront.

It’s quick to respond and runs Leapmotor’s own software, which includes navigation, voice commands, and Bluetooth.

You also get 4G connectivity and Wi-Fi built-in — which is good for keeping your devices online on the go.

The main downside? No Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, but the built-in sat-nav helps soften the blow here and will be fine instead as it is responsive, easy and clear to use.

Front Seats

The front seats are more comfortable than we’d expect at this price - which was a nice find.

They’re nicely shaped with decent side support and a good seating position, for example, all while the fabric feels durable, and there’s a proper armrest for the driver - which is always appreciated in a city car.

Heated seats aren’t available, but for the money, that’s more than forgivable in our view.

Rear Seats

In the back, you’ll find room for two passengers here.

As with any city car, it’s definitely snug, but thanks to the tall roofline, the headroom is actually very good.

The legroom is also fine for kids or average-sized adults on shorter trips as well.

This is all while the upright seating position helps with their comfort here, too, though taller folks might feel a bit squeezed on longer drives.

Boot Capacity

Its boot space is a modest 210 litres with the rear seats up.

That’s enough for a weekly shop or a couple of weekend bags, for example.

It’s on the small side, but this is a city car, after all, though the space is at least square and easy to load.

You can fold the rear seats down for extra room if needed, though they don’t go completely flat due to the car's overall footprint.

Boot Space in the Real World

With 210 litres of boot space, the T03 does the job for everyday needs.

For instance, here, you will comfortably fit a few supermarket bags, a cabin-sized suitcase, or even a compact pushchair.

The boot is also quite deep but narrow, so stacking items can be a bit awkward. Compared to rivals, it’s similar to the Dacia Spring (290L) but falls short of the Hyundai i10 (252L) and Kia Picanto (255L). The rear seats fold down, though not completely flat, which adds flexibility for the occasional bigger item we should note here.

Size & Layout

The cabin also makes the most of the T03’s small footprint, which we really liked.

For instance, despite its tiny exterior, the clever design and high roof mean it doesn’t feel cramped up front. Storage cubbies are dotted about, and visibility from the driver’s seat is excellent—though the rear window is quite small, and there’s no rear wiper, which might bug you in bad weather.

Cabin Storage

For a compact city car, the T03 also makes a decent effort when it comes to in-cabin storage.

Up front, for instance, you get a reasonably sized glovebox, large enough for the manual and a few odds and ends.

The front door bins are shallow but can also fit a small water bottle and maybe a snack or two as well, and there are two cupholders between the front seats, plus a little slot that’s perfect for a smartphone or loose change.

The centre console also has a covered storage box, which is great for hiding clutter like sunglasses or chargers.

Things do get a bit more basic in the back — there are no cupholders or seatback pockets, for instance, and the rear door bins are small, meaning your passengers in the back don’t have much space for drinks or gadgets.

Still, for solo drivers or couples mainly using the front seats, the storage options are really well thought out and practical for day-to-day city use, which we really liked.

Overall, despite its small size, the T03 offers you some decent interior space and passenger room, while its headroom and legroom are good up front, though the rear seats are best for shorter trips.

Performance & Driving Experience

For its engine, the T03 packs a 70kW electric motor — which is roughly 94bhp or 95hp — and gives you 116 lb-ft of torque, which for a city car is more than ample enough for what you will actually need this car for on a daily basis.

As the T03 puts out 94bhp and hits 0–62mph in 12.7 seconds — it is not blistering, but it is more than ideal for the city.

This is supported further thanks to its front-wheel drive as well and uses a single-speed automatic gearbox, so there's no gear changing to worry about here.

You just press and go.

This setup is also ideal for city life, where smooth, fuss-free driving is exactly what you want and will be looking for in a car of this type.

It’s also quiet, quick to respond at low speeds, and feels more refined than you might expect for something so affordable, which we really liked.

Leapmotor T03: Engine & Performance Stats

For your engine stats, here you have:

Acceleration & Handling

Now, let’s be honest — it’s not built for speed.

The 0–62mph time is a fairly relaxed 12.7 seconds, so overtaking on the motorway might take a bit of patience.

But in town, what it is built for, it feels surprisingly nippy.

For instance, here, the electric motor gives you instant torque, so it’s great for darting away from traffic lights or squeezing into gaps in traffic, as well as parking, which are the main things.

The T03 also only weighs 1,175kg, and that lightness means it feels agile and easy to manoeuvre.

Tight turning circle? Yep, it's got one at only 9.2 metres, meaning turning and reversing this car won't be a problem.

All in all, this makes it perfect for twisty streets, busy roundabouts, and tight supermarket car parks especially.

Noise Levels

As an electric car, it’s naturally very quiet at low speeds.

For instance, here you will notice a slight hum from the motor and a bit of wind and road noise on faster roads, but nothing intrusive we found.

Around town, it’s a calm and peaceful drive, which makes a nice change from the usual engine noise and traffic racket outside.

Battery Life & Charging

The Leapmotor T03 is powered by a 37.3kWh lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery.

This type of battery is known for being safer and more stable than traditional lithium-ion ones, with better resistance to heat and a longer overall lifespan as well which is really good.

With a WLTP-rated range of 165 miles, it’s ideal for city life, school runs, and even the occasional weekend trip.

For many drivers, that means only needing to charge once or twice a week and for only a few pounds a time as well.

Charging Capabilities

The T03 also supports both AC and DC charging, giving you flexible options depending on your routine.

For example, for home charging, the car comes with a Type 2 AC port and supports up to 6.6kW.

That means a full charge takes roughly 6.5 hours using a standard home wall box — which is perfect for plugging in overnight and waking up to a full battery to get going.

When you’re out and about, the DC fast charging port supports up to 48kW.

That’s decent for a car in this price range.

Using a public fast charger, then, you can top up from 0% to 80% in around 36 minutes — ideal for a quick break while grabbing a coffee or doing the shopping.

Charging Port Location

One small but clever touch — the charging port is actually located at the front of the car.

That means no awkward reversing into tight spaces at charging stations, for instance; just drive forward and plugin.

It’s super handy when using public chargers or narrow driveways, making the whole process just that little bit less stressful as a result.

The Leapmotor T03 starts at just £15,995 (at the time of writing) on the road, making it one of the most affordable electric cars currently on sale in the UK.

That’s the price for the single, fully loaded trim — and there are no confusing spec levels or costly option packs either.

In fact, this standard equipment includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen, digital driver display, adaptive cruise control, panoramic sunroof, reversing camera, and a full suite of safety tech.

So, for a price under £16,000, you are getting a fully loaded city EV — no confusing trims, just one well-specced package that offers outstanding value, which is something we really like.

How It Compares

Against its closest rival, the Dacia Spring (from ~£16,995), the T03 offers you more tech, a better range (165 miles vs. 137 miles), and a far more modern cabin.

The Citroën ë-C3, expected around £21,000, brings a fresher design and bigger boot, but at a much higher price pint.

Then you have petrol-powered city cars like the Kia Picanto or Hyundai i10, which might start cheaper, but once you factor in fuel, tax, and servicing, the T03 quickly catches up in long-term value here.

Insurance Groups

The insurance group is 25U, which is a bit higher than a basic petrol supermini, likely due to its tech and safety kit.

Still, for many buyers, especially those in city areas, it remains very affordable and manageable as well.

Servicing, Maintenance & Dealer Support

Thanks to Leapmotor’s partnership with Stellantis, servicing and parts support in the UK and Europe will be handled through Stellantis’ dealer network as well.

Which, in turn, should make getting the car serviced far easier than with some other Chinese EV start-ups.

Being an EV as well, there's no oil to change, no exhaust system, and fewer moving parts, so overall maintenance should be cheaper and simpler in the long run here as well.

Real-World Running Costs

The T03 also has a WLTP energy efficiency rating of 3.8 miles per kWh.

That means if you’re paying around 28p per kWh at home, a full charge (~£10.44) gives you around 165 miles — which is less than 7p per mile.

Public charging will cost more, but even at higher rates, it’s still cheaper than petrol per mile, especially when combined with its zero road tax and ULEZ compliance here as well

Warranty

One of the real bonuses with the Leapmotor T03 is its generous warranty package, which we really like - especially considering how affordable the car is.

Battery Warranty

For instance, here, you get an eight-year or 100,000-mile battery warranty, which is pretty reassuring for anyone making their first jump into the world of electric cars.

Manufacturer’s Warranty

On top of that, the car itself comes with a four-year manufacturer’s warranty, covering most of the main components and systems.

That’s a year longer than the standard you’d get with a lot of other budget-friendly models, and it gives you a bit more peace of mind if you're planning to keep the car for a few years.
