Maxus Unveils Europe’s First Fully Electric Pickup with All Wheel Drive

Maxus is set to make history at the IAA Transportation event in Hanover, Germany, on September 16, 2024, with the introduction of the eTerron 9—Europe's first fully electric pickup truck featuring standard all-wheel drive. This marks a significant step in the company’s expansion into the European market, with a strong focus on sustainable mobility.

The eTerron 9 is a mid-size electric pickup equipped with dual electric motors that together produce 325 kW (442 hp). It also features Maxus’s All-Terrain System (ATS), offering six preset driving modes tailored for varying road conditions, from normal roads to challenging terrains like mud and sand. Drivers can further personalize the driving experience with user-defined settings, adjusting everything from steering response to energy recovery and air suspension height. With over 400 possible configurations, the eTerron 9 aims to provide a versatile driving experience.

Powered by a 102 kWh high-voltage battery, the eTerron 9 offers a range of up to 430 kilometers (WLTP combined) on a single charge. It can be fast-charged from 20% to 80% in approximately 40 minutes, making it a practical option for long-distance travel. The vehicle also includes a ‘Vehicle to Load’ feature, allowing users to power external devices through multiple onboard sockets, including a 6.6 kW outlet.

Measuring 5.50 meters in length, the eTerron 9 offers a payload capacity of 620 kilograms and can tow up to 3.5 tons. The rear wall of the driver’s cab can be lowered to extend the pickup bed to 2.40 meters, providing extra flexibility for transporting larger items. Inside, the pickup combines luxury with practicality, offering leather seating, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with ventilation and massage functions, and the option to convert the front seats into a sleeping area.

Built on a semi-monocoque body made with ultra-high-strength steel, the eTerron 9 is designed to achieve a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. Safety features include an emergency braking system and lane departure warning. The vehicle’s height can be adjusted based on speed and driving conditions, thanks to an advanced air suspension system that also improves its aerodynamics and range.

The launch of the eTerron 9 marks the beginning of a series of new models from Maxus, part of the SAIC Group, as the brand pushes for greater adoption of electric vehicles across Europe. Further details, including pricing and market availability, are expected to be announced in the coming months.
