PEUGEOT Unveils New Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain for 308 & 408 Models

PEUGEOT Unveils New Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain for 308 & 408 Models

Date Posted: 09 April 2025

In a move to support customers transitioning to electrification, PEUGEOT has introduced a variety of electrified powertrains, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric options, all built on the same platform. For those further along in their electrification journey, PEUGEOT has launched a new plug-in hybrid powertrain for its 308, 308 SW, and 408 models, offering an impressive electric-only range of up to 48-49 miles*.

The new powertrain, which debuted with the 3008 and 5008 models, enhances electric efficiency. It pairs an updated 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a 125hp (92kW) electric motor, mated to a new seven-speed dual-shift clutch automatic transmission. In the 408, this powertrain delivers a total of 225hp (165kW) and 360Nm of torque, while the 308 and 308 SW offer 195hp (144kW) and the same torque. This new plug-in hybrid system reduces CO2 emissions to as low as 18g/km, which is up to 13g/km less than the previous version.

The 408 PLUG-IN HYBRID 225 offers up to 48 miles* of electric-only range, while the 308 and 308 SW PLUG-IN HYBRID 195 can travel up to 49 miles* on electricity alone. These figures make all three models ideal for fleet and business users, thanks to their increased electric range. They also benefit from a reduced Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) tax rate of just 9%, a 4% decrease from the 2025/2026 rates. This means savings of between £28 and £60 per month for the 408 and between £24 and £55 for the 308 and 308 SW.

The new powertrain comes with three driving modes: Hybrid, Electric, and Sport. The default Hybrid mode manages the combined operation of the petrol engine and electric motor, prioritizing electric driving to optimize fuel consumption. In Electric mode, the vehicle can drive up to 83mph on electric power alone, while the Sport mode uses electric power to enhance the petrol engine, offering maximum performance for a more dynamic driving experience.

Equipped with a larger 17.2kWh battery (14.6kWh usable), the plug-in hybrid powertrain supports a standard 3.7kW onboard charger, which charges the battery from 0% to 100% in approximately 4 hours and 20 minutes. With the optional 7.4kW onboard charger, this time is reduced to just over 2 hours.

Pricing and Availability

The PEUGEOT 308 PLUG-IN HYBRID 195 e-DSC7 starts at £38,110† in Allure trim and £41,320† in GT. PEUGEOT has introduced a new plug-in hybrid powertrain for the 308, 308 SW and 408 models. The powertrain combines a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 125hp (92kW) electric motor and a seven-speed dual-shift clutch automatic transmission.

The new plug-in hybrid powertrain offers CO2 emissions as low as 18g/km, which is up to 13g/km less than the previous version.

The new powertrain offers three driving modes: Hybrid, Electric, and Sport. Hybrid mode automatically manages the use of the petrol engine and electric motor, Electric mode allows driving on electric power up to 83mph, and Sport mode uses the electric motor to boost performance for dynamic driving.

Sherwoods Motor Group Limited is an Appointed Representative of Automotive Compliance Ltd, who is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA No 497010). Automotive Compliance Ltd’s permissions as a Principal Firm allows Sherwoods Motor Group Limited to act as a credit broker, not as a lender, for the introduction to a limited number of lenders and to act as an agent on behalf of the insurer for insurance distribution activities only.

We can introduce you to a selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. An introduction to a lender does not amount to independent financial advice and we act as their agent for this introduction. Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next best offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure the best deal you are eligible for from our panel of lenders. Lenders may pay a fixed commission to us for introducing you to them, calculated by reference to the vehicle model or amount you borrow. Different lenders may pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement, all of which are set by the lender concerned. If you ask us what the amount of commission is, we will tell you in good time before the Finance agreement is executed. All finance applications are subject to status, terms and conditions apply, UK residents only, 18’s or over. Guarantees may be required.
